Illinois governor clears thousands of marijuana convictions

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker announced more than 11,000 pardons for low-level marijuana convictions on Tuesday at a church on Chicago’s South Side – one day before the state’s new marijuana legalization law took effect. He described these pardons as the first wave of such expungements, provided for under the new law, which will make it easier for the people involved to get jobs, housing and financial aid for college.
