Overview

3,000 ft. up in the Blue Mountains

Jay’s Guest House sits over 3,000 feet above sea level in Jamaica’s Blue Mountains in the district of Hagley Gap, about 3 hours from the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston. This is not a posh resort. It is quaint, simple, and basic but comfortable and with the amenities any traveler would expect. Jay’s Guest House is a place for the adventurous traveler; someone who’ll be happy spending a few days hanging out with villagers in a small coffee farming community in the mountains. And the views are absolutely stunning!

Become part of Jay’s family

One of the great things about Jay’s is that guests immediately become part of his extended family as well as the larger community. You’ll enjoy scrumptious Jamaican style home-cooked meals that are filling and super delicious – including coffee farmed and roasted by the family. However, getting to the guesthouse is a challenging experience for drivers unaccustomed to narrow mountainous roads. The guesthouse will arrange pickup at the airport or some other location in Kingston.

Toke in the cool mountain air

Situated as it is high up in the mountains, Jay’s Guest House is a perfect spot for the ganja tourist to toke and reflect in the quiet solitude of the cool mountain air. Guests are free to smoke anywhere on the property, except in the rooms and ganja is readily available from local farmers. Ganja farm tours are also available for guests so inclined.

Hiking the Blue Mountains

The Blue Mountain range is the highest in Jamaica and known for its cool and misty climate. The 4-hour hike to the summit is a popular guest activity. This tour usually stars at about 1am so that you can be at the peak to watch the sun rise. Tour guides are available to provide commentary about the flora and fauna along the route. Bring comfortable shoes.

Don’t miss the coffee farm tour

Jay’s Guest House is in the middle of Jamaica’s famous coffee growing region and guests can experience a tour of one of three coffee farms owned by the family for a lesson about coffee production – from seedlings to cup.
