Overview
A unique boutique eco-hotel
Set on a historic 1600-acre estate along the Jamaican northeast coast, Green Castle Hotel is a unique eco-property complete with tropical rain forest, magical waterfalls and breathtaking views of the Caribbean and the Blue Mountains. Its 12 unique en-suite cottage rooms offer vacation requirements that range from budget upwards; and, even camping. The Green Castle estate is a natural paradise to experience and enjoy the beauty of Jamaica with much for the curious vacationer to do and learn about bird watching, the island’s history, and much more.
A quiet and peaceful place
Green Castle Hotel is a quiet and peaceful place with neither telephones nor tv’s. There is however excellent WiFi if you need to do a little work, check email, or download something to read as you relaxby the pool or on a hammock in the garden while listening to the chirps of the many endemic bird species regularly seen on the estate. Sitting 700 feet above sea level ensures refreshing breezes throughout and elegant plantation shutters ensure natural breezes and fresh air during sleep. There are only a few options for dining in the immediate vicinity, but the estate’s chef will wow you with delicious Jamaican dishes. However, there is no problem for those who prefer American or European fare.
A ganja friendly property
Guests are allowed to smoke ganja on the property. There is access to herb houses after airport pickup in Kingston or in Montego Bay. There are also herb houses an hour away in Ocho Rios. However, there is a ganja farm within walking distance of the estate that will be happy to replenish your stash and teach you about their home grown strains.
One of the world’s premier birding destinations
You will be surrounded by birds from dawn to dusk! Species like the Red-billed Streamertail, Vervain Hummingbird and Jamaican Mango are hard to miss. Many other endemics regularly encountered include colorful species like the Jamaican Tody, Jamaican Woodpecker, Jamaican Parakeet and Yellow-shouldered Grassquit. During autumn and winter, a range of colorful North American Wood Warblers adds to the spectacle.Whilst most species are to be found in the extensive rainforest, the estate’s reservoir also attracts a diversity of birds including the Northern Jacana and the elusive West Indian whistling-Duck. Open areas attract Barn Owls and Antillean Nighthawks. The coast has breeding White-tailed Tropicbirds and at dusk, hundreds of Egrets and Herons arrive to roost in the mangroves. After dark, the Jamaican Owl and Northern Potoo can be found close to the main house.
